Beauty | The Pale Skin Foundations

Revlon Colorstay in Ivory, Revlon Photoready in Vanilla, Chanel Perfection Lumiere in BR12 and BR22, Estee Lauder Invisible Fuid 1N1, Double Wear Light Intensity 1, Health Mix Serum 51, Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc
As a pale skinned girl I have tried more foundations than anyone I know and I have never managed to find the "one", the holy grail that I just have to have in my life and I keep on searching for it in hope. As well as being the palest colour in foundations I also have the double problem of having pink undertoned skin.. most people are cool or neutral not me I'm pale but have a warm, pink undertone, possibly the biggest contradiction skin wise there is, I was once told.

The palest foundations in drugstore brands are usually yellow undertoned, this has resulted in a fair few mishaps in my time, yes a pale simpsons character wouldn't be a bad description. As hilarious as this may seem it is a serious problem for me and the main reason my foundation collection is bursting out my drawers, or that's the excuse anyway!

So this post is all about me sharing my fave and not so fave pale foundations that may help some of my fellow pale skinned girls out! I've tried to include a good mix of both high end and drugstore foundations. High end ones obviously have a much larger colour range to chose from, whereas with drugstore I'm usually restricted to whatever one is the palest in the range.

High end
Chanel Perfection Lumiere was/is one of my favourite foundations, I originally got matched to this in Beige Rose 22 which is too dark and had to go back and get Beige Rose 12. It's a great coverage subtle glowy foundation the 12 matches my skin perfectly and blends in seamlessly. You can probably tell that the 22 has been well used as well and I use this to mix into the aforementioned yellow toned foundations. I have done a full review of perfection lumiere here.

At the tender age of 13 my Mum bought me my first high end foundation, due to my phase of wearin ones 10 shades to dark for me. She took me to Estee Lauder and had me colour matched to possibly the most perfect foundation ever Estee Lauder Individualist in 1W1 Beech. However 3 years later they decided to discontinue the line, leaving me heartbroken and using Double Wear which just wasn't the same.
They then brought out Double Wear Light and I was told it was like the old individualist, queue me snapping it up. The only problem with these are they come in sort of universal shade intensities, me being intensity 1. I've only recently started using it again and obviously just as I was liking it it ran out hence the cut open bottle. They do have a new 0.5 intensity that I might be swayed to try out.
Next up Invisible Fluid in 1N1, first up the girl matching me, matched me to a shade they didn't even do in this. It's one of those ones you really need to shake before using it and I do find the consistency a little watery. It would be great in this colour for other pale girls but not for me as it just leaves  me orangey.

I bought a sample of Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc and straight away this blended into my skin seamlessly and gave me the perfect colour match. You will notice that the picture is the sample not a full size and even though it was love at first sight after a couple of hours of wear it went oily and dry in patches. So unfortunately this one although being a perfect colour, finish and coverage it just wasn't meant to be.

Drugstore

Bourjois's Healthy Mix Serum was one of the first drugstore foundations I ever tried again after the horrendous Rimmel Wake Me Up experience. It totally changed my opinion on drugstore foundations. Yes its a bit yellowy on my skin but I love the texture and how well it blends in. You can read my full thoughts on Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum here.

Revlon's offerings have recently been impressing me a lot! First up is the ColourStay I bought this in Oily/combination as they have 2 different types. The colour ivory is perfect for me as its pale but also has pink undertones!! It's a great coverage as well but I do find this one a little dry on my skin so I'm tempted to try the dry one as well. The PhotoReady is also amazing its has yellow undertones but it's sheerness cancels that out and I love this for good skin days.

So that is it for my lowdown on pale foundations. You obviously  always get a much better selection with high end as you can be colour matched, however there are a couple of brands that don't do pink undertones for the lightest shades so bear that in mind. Also L'oreal now do a wide range of colours in the true match range that are designed to be suited to a variety of skin tones.
I hope this may have helped you discover something new and if you know of any good pale foundations with a pink undertone leave them below for me!

  1. Great great post! I use Revlon Colorstay in Ivory, I just love the flawless finish it gives. The only thing that I have against it is the smell, it somewhat reminds me of wallpaper stripper! haha I've been wearing it for years though and I don't plan on moving on any time soon

  2. Your skin tone sounds identical to mine! I am close to trying out Rimmel's offerings as they seem like a cheaper option at the moment! I recommend Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect, as its not as yellow as the other ones they do - and Healthy Mix broke me out awfully! x

  9. I've just had the opposite problem! I got matched too pink in urban decays naked skin - why do I keep trusting shop assistants above myself? It never works out! I'm loving Lily lolo mineral foundation ATM, doesn't look powdery at all & half the price of bare minerals!

  10. The two foundations I have right now are NARS sheer glow in Mont Blanc and Bourjois healthy mix in 51. I love both of them. That's too bad that NARS sheer glow didn't work out for you. I can't use chanel foundations. My skin reacts sooo badly.
