The Glow Givers Part 1 - Skincare

I don't know about you but as soon as winter hits the combination of it suddenly getting colder, office air conditioning and central heating reek havoc on my skin. It's like that lovely glow the majority of us have during the summer months seems to vanish and my skin looks so dull. So I've been on the hunt for the best glow producing skincare there is.

First up Toners, exfoliating toners that is. Most of these contain acids or (AHA's) they gently exfoliate the skin to leave the complexion brighter giving you that natural glow by removing all the dead skin. My favourite for this is the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator, although be warned wearing an SPF is very important when using these products. Or for those thinking that all sounds a bit harsh on their face La Roche-Posay have recently released a clarifying toner* in the Effaclar anti-blemish system. The active ingredients are lactic and salicylic acid but in very low levels. I find this one gives your skin that fresh look but also leaves it feeling soft and smooth and not as stripped as some leave it. Boots Botanics also do a lovely All Bright Cleansing Toner, it does also have some very low levels of acid but I do find this one to have the best brightening affect on my skin although it does contain alcohol so people with dry skin might not be loving this one.

Next up, face masks. There are loads out there all providing different benefits. I find the best for glowing skin to be the ones that are like a sort of mini chemical peel/facial. The Crystal Clear 10 minute glow* goes on and dries to form a sort of peelable sheet over the skin, it definitely gives you a glow and leaves your skin feeling super smooth. However my favourite has to be the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal mask, as the name suggests this contains Glycolic and Lactic acids along with some other lovely fruit acids and is amazing. I love using this as it just seems to give my skin an instant boost of glowyness.

Moisturisers, I'm on of those people that is constantly using different moisturisers but there is one I find myself always repurchasing and that is the Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Radiance Day Cream. This is a lovely light moisturiser for day but it also gives your skin a lovely glowy dewiness that doesn't disappear with a sheer to medium covering of foundation and for that I love it. Another favourite of mine is the Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins a definite winner for waking up to glowing skin.

Last but by no means least are Treatments. This includes all your serums, oils etc etc or if your me just serums! This is where you can really go to town and I do love a good serum! For day I like the Monu Brightening Boost*, as the name suggests this little serum packs a big boost of glow and is really light so you can still apply primer over it if you don't like applying moisturiser then primer. The Orico Transcend Radiance Serum*, this seriously impressed me I only have the trial size but I am seriously considering a full size purchase as this is amazing. It gives your skin an amazing radiant glow when applied all over the face and its pink coloured what more can you want! This is another one I like applying in the morning before primer on days when I either din't have time for moisturiser or don't want to be loading my skin up with products. The night serums are where the magic happens. At night your skin has nothing else to focus on and so products get maximum attention. I choose serums that are specific for night time. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, I think everyone and their Aunty has this. It's clear to see why as it is amazing I use this when my skin is being particularly problematic and can really notice a difference in the morning. This is one for those nights when you've had 3 rotten nights sleep in a row, this will make you look wide awake and glowing in the morning, that and some good concealer. The BareMinerals Active Cell Renewal Night Serum*, I don't think I could love this stuff anymore. It sounds similiar to Estee Lauder but this has a much thicker consistency and I find it a better all rounder. This is my go to for most nights I wake up to glowy looking skin and any imperfections I had the night before are usually reduced to nothing. It also does an amazing job of hiding my redness so it's an all round winner for me. Last up is the Una Brennan Vitamin C Brighten Overnight Radiance Capsules. These.. are.. just! I don't use these all the time but on those days where no amount of moisturiser will do or god forbid I've been lazy and haven't followed my skincare routine. I crack one of these out or open that is. These might not look much but the serum goes a long way and they are pretty potent little miracle workers. I would use these every night if I could but the high levels of vitamin C means that people prone to redness, like me, can suffer from it being exaggerated. I can say this has not happened to me but I just choose to be cautious when using these.

I hope these skincare bits can give you some pointers and help on keeping your skin glowing. Part 2 will be on makeup!

*Some products in this post were given as PR samples, it was however my choice to include them in this, there are all marked with a "*"

  1. I noticed that the Boots Botanics toner was on sale when I was in Boots the other day and now I keep seeing it everywhere! It's pretty much fate, so I'm definitely going to have to pick it up. My skin is so dull right now! x
